MediShield Life is a national health insurance scheme that helps pay large hospital bills and selected costly outpatient treatments, such as dialysis and chemotherapy. It covers all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents for life, including those with pre-existing conditions, and is designed around subsidised treatment in public hospital wards. You pay a yearly premium, which can be paid using MediSave. Because it covers you against big bills rather than every expense, there are deductibles and co-payments you still bear. Premiums, coverage limits and claim rules are reviewed periodically and are subject to the latest rules.
