Is a JB day trip actually worth it with the causeway jams?

Regular JB-goer, it's worth it IF you play the timing and logistics right, otherwise the jam eats all your savings in wasted hours. My hard-won tips: 1) TIMING is everything. Go on a weekday if you can, or very early (leave SG before 6-7am) and come back before the evening return crush. Avoid Friday evenings, weekends, and especially the eve of and during public holidays and school holidays, those jams are legendary and you'll sit for 2-3+ hours. 2) Consider taking the train (the shuttle across) or a bus instead of driving, you skip the car queue at the checkpoint which is often the worst part. 3) If driving, top up your Touch n Go / have the VEP sorted so you're not stuck at booths. 4) Have a plan, batch your errands (groceries, petrol to the tank limit rule, makan, haircut/massage) into one efficient trip so the travel time is justified by volume. 5) Petrol: note the rule that SG-registered cars must have the tank at least 3/4 full when LEAVING Singapore. Done right, groceries, food and services are genuinely much cheaper and it's a fun outing. Done wrong (weekend, no plan), you'll swear never again. Timing separates the two experiences completely.
