Depends on your cashflow and phone habits honestly. I do contracts because I like upgrading to the newest phone every couple of years and I'd rather spread the cost than pay a lump sum. When you factor in the trade-in and the bundled perks, sometimes a contract from the big telcos isn't as bad as the SIM-only crowd claims, especially with promotions. That said, if you keep phones long and hate lock-ins, SIM-only is objectively cheaper. The trap people fall into is signing a two-year contract, then the phone breaks or they want to switch, and the early termination penalty stings. So be honest about your habits.
