Failed my IPPT, how does RT work and will it mess up my window?
Just failed my IPPT this cycle, first time. Now I have to do RT and I'm confused about the sessions, the window, and whether failing affects my next year. Any reservist folks who've been through RT recently, how does it actually work and any tips to clear it fast?

Cleared RT twice, no drama, here's the deal. Failing IPPT means you're placed on the Remedial Training programme, you complete a set number of RT sessions within your IPPT window to fulfil the year's obligation. Each session is a guided workout, and after you've done the required sessions you'll typically get a chance to attempt IPPT again, passing early can let you stop the remaining RTs. Book your slots on the NS portal ASAP because popular timings at the convenient FCCs fill up fast, especially evenings and weekends. My tips: don't leave it to the last month of your window, space the sessions out so you actually get fitter instead of cramming, and use the RT sessions properly, the trainers push you and it genuinely improves your run and reps. Failing this cycle doesn't haunt you next year as long as you fulfil the RT and the new window starts fresh. Just clear it early and it's a non-issue.
The run is what kills most people, including me. I focused RT and my own training on the 2.4 specifically, interval runs twice a week, and my timing dropped enough to pass on the retest and stop RT early. Push-ups and sit-ups you can grind reps for, but the run needs consistent aerobic work. Start now, not the week before.

Book early and book smart, pick an FCC near your home or work so you actually show up. I once booked a far one out of habit and kept dreading the commute. Also the app lets you see slot availability, snag weekend morning slots the moment they open. Missing RT sessions in your window is the real headache, so lock them in early.
Don't stress about the fail itself, tons of us fail a cycle, it's routine. RT is honestly a decent structured workout and the trainers are chill. Treat it as free coaching. Once you clear the sessions or pass the retest you're done for the window. The only way it messes you up is if you procrastinate and run out of time, so just start.
