Burnout is creeping in but I can't afford to quit, what actually helped?

I'm exhausted all the time, dread Mondays, and even my off days I can't switch off. But with a mortgage and family to support, quitting isn't realistic right now. For those who hit burnout while stuck in a job you couldn't leave, what actually made a difference?

My burnout came from tying my whole identity to my job. What shifted things was rebuilding a life outside work, even small, so the job stopped being everything. I started a cheap hobby, joined a weekly badminton kaki group at the CC, and forced myself to protect that time. Physically, I fixed my sleep first because everything feels worse when you're tired. Financially, I quietly built up a few months of expenses as a runway so that if things got unbearable, I had the option to leave, and weirdly just having that option reduced the trapped feeling a lot. You may not be able to change the job today, but you can change how much power it has over you. And do talk to someone, don't tahan alone.

Been exactly there, mortgage and all, couldn't just walk out. What helped me most was drawing hard boundaries at work since I couldn't quit. I stopped checking email after 7pm, took my full lunch away from my desk, and used up my annual leave that I'd been hoarding like an idiot. Small things, but they gave me breathing room. I also had an honest talk with my manager and got some tasks redistributed, turned out they had no idea I was drowning. If your workplace has an EAP counselling benefit, use it, it's confidential. Burnout is a real health issue, not weakness. Please do see a doctor if the exhaustion is affecting sleep or mood seriously, I left it too long and it hit my health.
