Feeling burnt out and empty even on weekends, is this normal?

For months I've felt drained, unmotivated and kind of numb even when I'm off work. I still function and show up, but I've lost interest in things I used to enjoy. I'm not sure if I'm just tired or if something's wrong. How did you all deal with this?

I went through something similar and I want to say clearly: functioning on the outside doesn't mean you're fine, so take yourself seriously. For me the numbness was early depression and I ignored it too long because I could still go to work. Practical things that helped were a proper sleep routine, cutting back caffeine and alcohol, getting sunlight and movement daily, and reducing doomscrolling which made me feel worse. But the biggest step was reaching out. You can talk to your GP who can refer you, or contact a helpline or counselling service, and in Singapore there are affordable options and community mental health teams. There's no shame in it, mental health is health. Please don't wait for it to get worse, get proper support early, and lean on people you trust in the meantime.

From my experience, what you're describing sounds a lot like burnout, and losing interest in things you used to enjoy is a real warning sign, not just normal tiredness. For me it built up slowly from overwork and always being 'on'. What helped was setting hard boundaries with work, actually switching off notifications after hours, and protecting real rest, not just collapsing in front of the phone. I reconnected with one small hobby and forced myself to exercise even when I didn't feel like it, which slowly lifted the numbness. Talking to a close friend instead of bottling it up made a big difference too. That said, if the emptiness and loss of interest last more than a couple of weeks, please don't just tough it out. Please speak to a doctor or a professional counsellor, this is important and help is available.
