The Workfare Income Supplement scheme supports lower-wage Singaporean workers by topping up their income and CPF savings when they work. Eligible employees and self-employed persons who meet age, income and property conditions receive payouts, partly in cash and partly into CPF, with older workers generally receiving more. It rewards consistent work rather than simply providing welfare, and self-employed persons must make MediSave contributions to qualify. A separate Workfare Skills Support scheme encourages training. Payments are usually made periodically through the year. Qualifying age, income caps and payout amounts are subject to the latest rules.
